A Memphis native and United States Air Force veteran, Robert Gatewood focuses his practice on civil litigation, to include Insurance Defense, Personal Injury, Workers’ Compensation, and Healthcare Law.  He is also a Rule 31 accredited Civil and Family Law mediator.

His practice initially focused on insurance defense where he handled difficult Workers’ Compensation cases.  Seeking to broaden his practice, he eventually became the In-house Trial Attorney for Farmers Insurance in Memphis, Tennessee. As their trial attorney, he litigated successfully 1st chaired 25 jury trials (to verdict) throughout Middle and West Tennessee.

For nearly eighteen (18) years, Robert has also been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Memphis where he has taught a variety of undergraduate Criminal Justice courses.  Moreover, for the last four (4) years, he has been a graduate instructor at the U of M’s School of Public Health where he teaches Healthcare Administration Law to students seeking Masters Degrees in Healthcare Administration or Public Health.

Before coming to BPJ, he worked as the Assistant Policy Advisor for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. He also served as Assistant Shelby County Attorney assigned to the Health Department providing legal advice and services, including working with contractors, community partners and the Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office.
