Mathew Jehl practices in the areas of personal injury litigation, commercial and business litigation, white collar and criminal investigations, government relations and municipal law, and labor and employment law.

A native Memphian, Mathew graduated from Rhodes College with honors in 2013.  After a short stint working in development at Rhodes, Mathew attended and graduated with honors from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.  Prior to joining Burch, Porter & Johnson, Mathew served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Bernice B. Donald, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Outside of work, Mathew teaches trial advocacy to students in the Rhodes College Mock Trial program, where he has been coaching since 2013.  When he is not working or coaching mock trial, you can probably find him at a Grizzlies or Tigers game.


Representative Matters

  • In 2020, Mr. Jehl helped secure a Judgment with a value of more than $4 million in Sheriff of Madison County, Tennessee v. Madison County, Tennessee.  After trial, Mr. Jehl also drafted a motion that ultimately ended with the Court ordering that the other side should pay for the legal fees incurred in bringing the suit.
  • In 2021, Mr. Jehl helped secure a Judgment in a wrongful death case involving a fall at a hospital in west Tennessee in Fitzhugh v. Henry County Medical Center.
  • In 2021, Mr. Jehl helped secure a pretrial dismissal for his client in United States v. Robinson, Ayers, & Boudreaux.
  • In 2021, Mr. Jehl helped defend against a 48-count criminal indictment involving $600,000 in alleged stolen property. Ultimately, Mr. Jehl helped get 46 of the 48 counts dismissed. While his client was found guilty on two counts involving $3,500, she received probation, and he is currently appealing the conviction to the Court of Appeals in hopes that the remaining two counts will also be dismissed.
  • In 2021, Mr. Jehl represented a client who was dropped from a Hoyer Lift at a dialysis clinic in Page v. Dialysis Clinic, Inc.  At trial, he cross-examined key witnesses and delivered the closing argument to the jury, who ultimately returned a six-figure verdict.
  • In 2022, Mr. Jehl successfully represented a client whose husband had fallen and died at hospital in West Tennessee in Altoonian v. Henry County Medical Center.  At trial, he helped secure a six-figure Judgment for his client.
