Wade Scofield’s practice focuses on general and complex litigation, including business disputes, contract disputes, governmental tort liability, civil rights matters, insurance coverage and indemnity, professional liability, white collar investigations and defense, and workers’ compensation and personal injury matters. An experienced trial attorney, Mr. Scofield believes in preparing each case as if it were the most important matter, as it often is to his clients.

Mr. Scofield is licensed to practice in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Texas, as well in various federal courts.

Prior to joining Burch, Porter & Johnson, Mr. Scofield served as an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County, Texas followed by a career in commercial and insurance defense litigation in both Houston, Texas and Memphis, Tennessee.

Mr. Scofield is a Memphis-area native who attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee and SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas, Texas. He is a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, the Rotary Club of Memphis, and a board member of Buntyn Preschool.

Mr. Scofield is a member of the Defense Research Institute’s Young Lawyers Steering Committee and has consistently been recognized by Best Lawyers in America (“Ones to Watch”).


Representative Matters

  • Tried multiple jury trials to verdict as first chair.
  • Secured multiple default judgments for a multinational telecommunications company in commercial litigation matters.
  • Ensured dismissal of client apartment complex in negligent security shooting case of a tenant.
  • Obtained summary judgment in a food positioning claim on behalf of well-known restaurant chain.
  • Negotiated and settled high-exposure bad faith suit on behalf of client insurance company.
  • Investigated, defended, and favorably settled high-exposure personal injury claims on behalf of client multinational trucking company.
